NEXCOM must be as tough as nails to handle the daily pounding from day-to-day use. The solution is a mobile rugged computer that can handle the regular exposure to direct sunlight, dust, and water that all take a toll on the system. The VMC 220 is a Vehicle PC for in-vehicle use with a robust set of core features, a healthy complement of additional extras, making it the ideal Vehicle PC with Display for many vehicle applications.
Solid Core Capabilities for Vehicle Use
At the heart of the VMC 220 is the NXP i.MX 8M Quad, an Arm®-based processor with Arm Cortex®-A53 and Cortex®-M4 cores optimized for fanless operation with Linux or Android (by request), low thermal cost, and long battery life. The screen is a sunlight-readable 8” IPS LCD display with 1280 x 720 screen resolution and a projected capacitive touch panel (PCAP) touchscreen.
The system is built tough. The 1,000 nits sunlight-readable screen provides enough brightness to read in even the brightest conditions. An optional battery provides up to 20 minutes of internal power, ideal for forklifts that need to change batteries. It’s rated IP65 waterproof, we even left it submerged in water for 30 minutes to test, and all ports are waterproof. It can take a beating, too. The VMC 220 passes IK08, which means it worked fine even after dropping a 1.7 kg steel ball on it. We’ve also crafted a bumper guard to protect the device from bumps and soften up knocks with the driver.
Vehicle voltage can vary, such as cars using 12 VDC and forklifts using 48 VDC, so the VMC 220 supports voltages from 9 to 60 VDC. To help drivers keep their eyes on the road, five buttons on the front panel provide eight customizable key operations. With added tactile bumps on specific keys, drivers can perform everyday tasks without taking their eyes off the road to search through the main display.
Variety of Valuable Additional Features
Beyond being tough, this vehicle mount computer provides a healthy dose of useful extra features. There’s no need to remove gloves when using the VMC 220 because the touchscreen can be used with gloves on and responds to touch input even when there’s water on the screen. All I/O connectors use M.12 connectors, providing complete waterproof protection against any moisture and dust. There is an optional built-in RFID reader for system safety and security, protecting the vehicle from unauthorized use. Loud noise in industrial environments can make it difficult to hear a typical computer, so the VMC 220 has speakers that can produce very loud sound up to 80 dB so that drivers never miss an alert. Wi-Fi with multiple antenna connectors provides a robust wireless network connection. There is also support for up to four channels of CVBS input for cameras.
Rock-Solid Vehicle Computer for Any Vehicle Application
The VMC 220 accommodates use in vehicle fleets, port warehouse management, vehicle control in mines, and indoor and outdoor stacker storage vehicles used for smart warehousing and logistics management. Core features make daily use easy and intuitive for operators and drivers, providing seamless integration of high-tech tools into their routines. The extended features, including the custom bumper and programmable buttons, provide useful extras that further simplify use while increasing flexibility and customization options. Overall, the VMC 220 is the best choice for in-vehicle use.
